Hewitt-Trussville’s winning streak reached 10 games recently with a 64-51 victory over Springville.Winning streaks are made to be broken, however, and that’s what happened in the opening round of the Spain Park Jaguar Tournament as the Huskies were edged by the Austin Bears 49-43.
Hewitt-Trussville 64, Springville 51
Christian Watford and David Holloman had double doubles for the Huskies in the 64-51 victory over the Tigers.
Hewitt-Trussville was up 16-9 after the first quarter, 30-18 at intermission and 50-35 after three quarters of play.
Watford pumped in 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Holloman netted 11 points and snatched 10 boards. Joey Dunion and Cornelius Allen pumped in eight points each while Matt Dickey totaled seven points. Michael Gunter added five points while Adrian Cook and Ethan Frazier scored four points each.
The win gave the Huskies a record of 10-2.
Austin 49, Hewitt-Trussville 43
Watford posted his second consecutive double double with 16 points and 11 boards but it was not enough as the Bears upended the Huskies 49-43 in the opening round of the tournament.
Hewitt-Trussville led 18-13 after the first quarter but things turned sour for the Huskies in the second and third quarters. They were outscored 25-13 in those two quarters as Austin built a 38-31 lead.
Also scoring for the Huskies were Holloman with 10 points, Gunter with eight points, Cook with four points along with Allen and Dickey with two points each.
The Huskies slipped to 10-3 overall.
