The Lady Purple Devils from Ragland picked up their first win of the season with a 39-21 victory over Parkway Christian 39-21.

Ragland jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead after the first quarter and never allowed Parkway Christian to make a move to get back into the game. The Ragland lead was 18-5 at halftime and 29-7 after three quarters of play.

Parkway Christian outscored Ragland 14-10 in the fourth quarter but it was not near enough as the Lady Purple Devils won 39-21.

Leading Ragland was Chasidy Morrow with 13 points and eight rebounds. She also had two steals. Brooke Evans and Paige Gann scored eight points each while Kayla Coats netted five points.

Before playing Parkway Christian, the Lady Purple Devils lost to Jacksonville Christian 62-38. Ragland actually led 7-4 after the first quarter but JCA went on a 18-3 run in the second quarter to make the score 22-10.

JCA continued to pound Ragland in the third quarter outscoring them 20-8 to open up a 42-18 lead. The final score was 62-38.

Morrow led Ragland with 16 points while Koats netted 11 points. Mikayla Lindsay scored eight points.

The Ragland boys fell to 1-3 on the season after losing to Parkway Christian 45-41. Parkway Christian started on fire as they led 18-6 after the first quarter.

The Purple Devisl fought back to close the gap to 28-22 at halftime.

Parkway’s lead was 36-26 after three quarters of play and a Ragland rally in the fourth quarter fell short as they lost 45-41.

Justin Colley led the Purple Devils with 11 points. Justin Hollingsworth netted eight points while Nathaniel Bridier and Jonathan Talley had seven points each. Jarod Brock scored four points while Tyrell Embry had two points.

Coach Andy Eden said it was a tough area loss but he was happy with the effort of his guys.

“In both of our area losses, we have been close in the fourth quarter,” Eden said. “I believe we are continuing to improve.”
