So now it is over. The Auburn-Alabama football game has been played, and Auburn put on a dazzling show to come back from a 24-point deficit to win by 1.

The buildup seemed more intense this year. Lots riding on the game for Auburn, not so much for Alabama, and the talk shows and blogs and websites were overrun with insults from both sides.

That’s too bad.

Auburn has had a magical year, and we will be pulling for them to beat South Carolina in the SEC Championship Game and then going on to win the national title after that. That would make it two in a row from the state and six in a row from the Southeastern Conference.

It is tempting to find a soapbox, climb on top and rail against the salaries paid the coaches, the high price of tickets and the money machine that is college football. Tempting, but no good will come of it.

Those who live and die with Auburn or Alabama football don’t care about all that. All they care about is winning, and this year Auburn did it.

Well done. And War Eagle against South Carolina.
