PELL CITY — Being able to play every position on the field has paid off for Pell City senior Ashley Robinson. The Lady Panthers utility player signed a letter of intent to play softball for Snead State Wednesday.

“Ashley can play multiple positions and that is going to help us tremendously,” Snead State head coach Lisa Murray said. “Out of the 20 girls I got at least 15 of them can play multiple positions. I can put them anywhere we need them. The best nine hitters will play and I think she will be able to come in and make a immediate impact on the team.”

During Robinson’s career at Pell City she has seen significant time at five of the nine positions on the diamond.

“She has played several positions for us,” Pell City head coach Terry Isbell said. “She has played third base, left field, right field, she has played second base, and she has even played first base. This year she will be the starting third baseman for us.”

With her college plans already set, Robinson can focus on the season and improving her game.

“It does, but it doesn’t mean that I’m going to layoff and not work as hard,” Robinson said. “I still need to get better, so I can be ready for college.”

The 2011 Lady Panthers have a handful of players that will play on the collegiate level next year.

“It is a proud moment in our softball program,” Isbell said. “We have another senior that’s getting the chance to play college softball. We are going to have four this year going to play college softball, we probably could have had more, but some of them choose to just go to school.”

One of the things that made Robinson choose Snead State is its location. Snead State is located in Boaz, which is just over an hour away from Pell City.

“The coach and it being close to home,” Robinson said. “When we went up there for the first time, I fell in love with the campus. I thought it was perfect for me.”

Isbell believes that Robinson will do fine at Snead.

“Snead is going to get a player that works extremely hard and do everything that she is asked to do,” Isbell said. “She is going to do it with a good attitude and that is very important from a coaching standpoint. She has a great attitude and great leadership. We are really going to miss her.”
