PELL CITY — Chilly weather didn’t stop Pell City’s softball team from picking up its sixth win of the season Thursday, a 12-2 area win over visiting Gadsden City.

Alli Hall picked up the win for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the area.

“It was a good area win,” said Pell City head coach Terry Isbell. “It’s always nice to be 1-0 in the area.”

Gadsden City dropped to 0-2 on the year.

“If you take away a few errors, it would have been a close ball game,” said Gadsden City head coach Todd Watkins. “We’re trying to stay positive and successful in our efforts.”

Watkins praised the play of his seventh-grade pitcher, Cassidy Underwood after the game.

Gadsden City took its only lead of the game in the top of the first when Sheridan Jones scored off a single from Christian Cruz to make it 1-0.

Pell City responded in the bottom of the second inning. Brittany Gillison’s double to right field got the Lady Panther bats going. Katelyn Houser reached third base on an error, but Gillison was called out after sliding into home plate.

B.B. Hall then reached second base on a single. Jones committed an error on Dre Lane’s ground ball, which allowed Houser and B.B.Hall to score to make it 2-1.

Lane scored on an error later in the inning to increase the Lady Panthers lead to 3-1.

Pell City pushed the lead to 4-1 in the third when Ashley Robinson’s single scored Briana Gonzalez from third base. Gillison’s single scored Robinson, making it 5-1.

Audrey Gonzalez, who was pinch running for Alli Hall, scored with Gillison on Lane’s fielders choice to give Pell City a 7-1 after three innings.

Gadsden City’s Marynes Hernandez scored from third base in the fourth to narrow the gap to 7-2, but it would be the last time the Lady Titans would score.

After a scoreless fifth, Briana Gonzalez scored her second run of the night for Pell City off a throwing error in the sixth. Robinson then stole home to bring the Lady Panther lead to 9-2. The next batter, Gillison, blasted a double to left center and Alli Hall came around to give Pell City an eight-run lead.

With no outs later in the inning, the Lady Panthers loaded the bases. Lane was walked, allowing Gillison to jog in for Pell City’s 11th run of the night.

The game was called when Gonzalez was walked and Houser gave the home team the 12-2 win.

Pell City will return to the diamond tonight in Cullman to play in a tournament with Lawrence County and Buckhorn. Following spring break, the Lady Panthers will face Grissom at home March 22 at 4 p.m.

Gadsden City is scheduled to play Grissom at home Monday at 4:30 p.m.
