PELL CITY — A 57-year-old man drowned after his truck went into Logan Martin Lake Thursday night.

St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell identified the man as James Forrest Holmes.

“He was driving out of his residence on River Crest Drive, off Logan Martin Dam Road, and his truck went into the river,” Russell said.

Russell said a St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputy waded into the water, but could not locate the truck.

“The truck submerged in about 8-10 feet of water,” he said.

Russell said Holmes was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:06 a.m. Friday.

Russell said the cause of death is accidental drowning and the investigation is closed.
