“I am glad that I got the opportunity to play somewhere,” Stubblefield said. “I have wanted to play ball on the next level and I am thankful that coach Ramos gave me the opportunity.”
Talladega College skipper Will Ramos played a huge role in Stubblefield’s decision to sign with the Tornadoes.
“Coach Ramos, he is very nice,” Stubblefield said. “I think I will have fun here for the next four years. The players that are here and that have signed I already know. I think we will become real close and have a very good team before it is over.”
Stubblefield is the fifth player from Talladega County to sign with the Tornadoes this spring. He believes having players that he is familiar with make the transition easy for him.
“Usually your college experience is moving off and meeting new people, but it won’t be too many new ones here,” Stubblefield said. “I have known them all of my life and it is going to be really fun. I will be really comfortable here.”
Ramos was impressed with Stubblefield when he saw him play last season. He believes Stubblefield will have a chance to become the power hitter he is searching for.
“Dosson is a guy that I saw last year in the Talladega County All-Star game,” Ramos said. “I liked him and I talked to his coach about him. We lost communication between here and there. When we started recruiting again he came to the table due to that we were looking for a first baseman. He is very good defensively and he is going to hit with power and right now we are looking for a guy with power.”
“I am going to work hard and be the best ball player I can be before I am done,” Stubblefield said. “I am going to give coach Ramos everything that I got.”
One of the things Ramos likes about Stubblefield is his height. The signee stands 6-foot-3, and Ramos said size is important on the corners.
“He is a big kid,” Ramos said. “He is a tall guy. The first thing I like about him is his height. You always want a height at first base and on the corners. His speed is kind of slow, but as he gets into the program practicing and lifting weights he will get better. What I also like about him is his grades. He is a very good student and a very good person. He is a very quiet guy, I don’t see him being a leader yet. I think he can be a leader in another way. He is a very good worker and a very good student, most of the time those two combine. When you are a good student you are a good baseball player.”
