Possibly as many as 700 job applicants showed up at the Pell City Civic Center Wednesday to seek work at the new store. The store will hire around 100-110, ranging from stockers and cashiers to skilled meat cutters, bakers and cake decorators. The pharmacy department has already hired its personnel.
Publix is set to open in September, and Pell City Mayor Bill Hereford says he “can’t wait.”
Hereford points out that Publix is likely to attract shoppers from other areas, and this influx of shoppers will attract other businesses.
“I believe the impact of this store is so much more than selling groceries,” he said.
