“We received a lot of positive feedback,” Joe Yeazitzis, Publix Super Markets, Atlanta Division, district manager, said Thursday.
Customers formed a long line before the store open at 7 a.m., Wednesday, and the store’s parking lot remained full into the night when the store closed at 10 p.m.
Yeazitzis said associates received plenty of positive comments from customers. He said comments ranged from the service, to the quality of the products, to the convenient store location.
“We’re real excited about the location,” he said.
Yeazitzis said it was a huge responsibility for store associated to open the new Publix Super Market in Pell City, because there is not another store within a 30-mile radius.
Yeazitzis said it was the first time for many of the shoppers to ever shop at a Publix Super Market.
Publix officials say Publix Super Markets pride itself on customer service.
“It was a tremendous responsibility for our associates,” Yeazitzis said.
The new Publix Super Market opened Wednesday morning in South Park Center on U.S. 231. More than 150 people gathered outside the store for the official ribbon cutting ceremony.
Brenda Reid, media community relations manager for the Atlanta Division of Publix, agreed that the new store opening was a huge success and business at the new store continues to thrive.
“Each Publix store is allotted a certain amount of grocery carts,” Reid explained. “We couldn’t keep enough grocery carts at the front entrance. That’s usually a sign of a great store opening.”
She said the grand opening went off without a hitch.
“It went really well,” Reid said.
She said what struck her was that people were talking to one another in store isles like they talk to one another in a neighborhood.
Reid said the store not only attracted city residents, but customers from the surrounding areas of Pell City. There were coupon shoppers as well.
“People were just really excited about this new store,” she said.
Publix officials say the new store will attract shoppers with its great customer service and quality products.
“We definitely anticipate this to be a very successful store,” Yeazitzis said. “We put a store in the right location, where there were people who wanted a Publix store.”
