According to the arrest report, Octavius Sanders, 19, of Lincoln, is charged with second-degree assault.
The alleged assault occurred at the scene of a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 78 Friday morning, involving a 1999 Chevrolet Caprice and a Pell City school bus. No children were on the bus at the time of the accident, and the bus driver was not injured.
St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell said Javon Lamar Sanders, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Octavius Sanders allegedly assaulted two Riverside firefighters, an ambulance attendant and a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department deputy. He also allegedly kicked out the window of a Sheriff’s Department vehicle while in custody.
Riverside Police Chief Rick Oliver said due to the tragic nature of the incident, he did not wish to comment on the matter.
The accident is still under investigation by Alabama State Troopers, and no further information was available Monday afternoon.
