Congratulations to the Child Nutrition Program workers in the Talladega County Schools program who were honored at the White House for steps they have taken to improve the health of the children they serve.

Talladega County elementary schools presented with the Department of Agriculture’s Gold Award of Distinction were B.B. Comer, Childersburg, Munford, Stemley Road and Watwood.

First Lady Michelle Obama spoke to the honorees and commended them for their work.

The recognition is part of the department’s Healthier US School Challenge, with 2,161 school’s certified since its inception in 2004.

CNP workers took steps to improve the nutritional value of the meals they serve, increase physical activity and help the children learn about good nutrition.

Our hat is off to them for their contributions to improved health.
