New Hope Missionary Baptist Church will honor their pastor Dr. Bobby Harris and First Lady Brenda Harris on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2:45 p.m. Guest speaker will be Dr. Akeam Simmons.

For the 35th Pastor’s Anniversary, the theme is “On Being Thankful for the Journey, Phil. 1:1-7.” Gloria Wood said she hopes the day is very special and memorable.

“Our pastor has been here 35 years, he’s probably one of the longest tenure pastors left in the Sylacauga area,” she said. “We are hoping to have a very special and memorable day. This has been a tough year for him and his family and we want it to be special, one of the days he will remember for a long, long time.”

Wood said Harris was recently diagnosed with cancer and after surgery, only recently began preaching again.

“We are hoping he is cancer free,” she said. “We want this to be special.”

Simmons, the guest speaker, from The Liberty Baptist Church in Alabaster is said to be a dynamic speaker. His prior pastorate experience includes serving as senior pastor at Rising Star Baptist Church in Birmingham, First Baptist Church in Birmingham and Shiloh Baptist Church in Anniston.

Simmons is the author of eight published works entitled Run or Die, In His Image, Riding on the Wind, Black Tears, Jail House Grace, Tomorrow’s Grace, Revelations and God’s Promotions. He is an avid reader, skilled chess player, accomplished writer and an aspiring artist. Simmons has two daughters, Nequisa and Keandra, and one granddaughter.

New Hope is located at 521 Old Fayetteville Road, Sylacauga, Ala.
