It’s with great pleasure that we note that Sylacauga native Christina Meeks is the recipient of a 2012 Emmy award in recognition of outstanding work in television.

Meeks interned with James Spann and went on to work at The Weather Channel before moving to Huntsville where she is an on-air meteorologist for WHNT 19.

The station won two Emmys at the Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards in Nashville. Meeks was part of the team that produced “Surviving the Storm: A Taking Action Special,” which gave important information on how to survive severe weather conditions.

As luck would have it, the special aired several weeks before last year’s April 27 tornadoes. She covered those as well, what she calls the world’s largest outbreak of tornadoes in history.

We offer our congratulations to Meeks on the award and wish her further success in her career.
