Antique Talladega president Bill McGehee said after seeing patrons bring blankets to watch screenings of the “Roots” mini-drama, he know it was time to do something.
The city of Talladega, which owns the Ritz, awarded the $181,727 bid on the project to Metro D Construction.
City Manager Brian Muenger said the new system will be installed with baffles to control the noise.
“It’s one more step in making the Ritz one of the premier theaters in the south,” said McGehee. He added the Ritz has never had a summer season because the old system was not capable of cooling off the theater.
Installation is expected to be completed by the end of August or early September.
