SYLACAUGA — A Sylacauga woman was killed around midnight Wednesday after colliding with a vehicle on Alabama 21.

Rebecca Lynn Cain, 41, was crossing the highway on foot near the Helen Street intersection when she was struck by the vehicle. Cain was pronounced dead at the scene by Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy.

Cain’s family was notified of the incident. The driver of the vehicle involved is a Talladega resident who was passing through Sylacauga.

“This is a very unfortunate incident,” Police Chief Chris Carden said. “The department is deeply saddened for Ms. Cain, her family and the other person involved. I have been assured this was an accident only. The driver was simply coming through Sylacauga and was not impaired in any way.”

A toxicology report on Cain will be provided from forensics, as is standard practice when there is a death of this nature. The Sylacauga Police Department is handling the investigation.
