The event takes place August 2-5. “Be a part of this cultural phenomenon and either host a yard sale or go shopping,” the release says.
The route for this year’s yard sale begins on Alabama 22, just west of Alexander City, then travel east on Alabama 22 through town to Tallapoosa Street on the way to New Site. From New Site, take Alabama 49 North to Lineville, then pick up Highway 9 to Ashland.
In Ashland, pick up Alabama 77 North, through Talladega and on to Gadsden.
The new Alabama leg of the event adds about 100 miles.
“Every August, thousands of bargain hunters travel the Highway 127 Corridor, better known as the World’s Longest Yard Sale,” the release says. “This events starts the first Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday of August each year and covers over 650 miles from Michigan to Gadsden. The counties of Clay, Calhoun, Tallapoosa and Talladega have created a route to guide visitors to our area from Gadsden southward, and visitors traveling northward to Gadsden up into Tennessee and beyond. This is a great opportunity to hold a fundraising event to support your local projects or building funds.”
The release goes on to encourage residents to “Partner up with your neighbors, your churches and local businesses, fire departments and rescue squads. Get the Girl and Boy Scouts in on it. Anyone can participate. Set up on your own property or partner with a property owner for a better location. It’s all up to you. Let your chamber know where you will be set up and we’ll put up as many individual locations as we can in our ads. Be sure to follow all local laws.”
