TALLADEGA —Police are looking for two black females who have cashed at least four forged checks and used the ATM card of at least two different victims, according to Capt. Leon Thomas.

One of the victims was local; the other appears to be from Alabaster, Thomas said.

The local victim was an employee at the Fishers of Men Christian Bookstore. Sometime Thursday while she was at work her purse was stolen. The purse contained her checkbook and a debit card.

At about 3:50 p.m. Thursday, two black females went into the AOC Texaco Station on Cherry Street and wrote a check for $200 drawn on the woman’s account to buy a pack of cigarettes. They left, returned about 10 minutes later, and withdrew another $200 using the woman’s ATM card.

Three more checks drawn on an account with Wachovia Bank were also cashed at the convenience store Thursday afternoon, totaling $525. It was not clear if all three checks were presented at the same time or if they were brought in at various times during the day.

The two suspects were seen leaving the store in the same black Chevrolet Impala each time, Thomas said.

One of the suspects was described as being heavy-set. The second suspect was described as having a light complexion with green eyes.

All of the above transactions were captured on video. Thomas said investigators were reviewing the video Friday.

Anyone with information on this incident should contact the Talladega Police Department at 256-362-4508 or call the anonymous tip line at 256-299-0011.
