Josh Wetzel is a soldier in the U.S. Army who was seriously injured in Afganistan May 31. Wetzel lost both legs, fractured vertebrates in his neck and sustained other numerous injuries while in combat. Wetzel recently received a surprise visit from his Commander in Chief, President Barack Obama at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Md. Wetzel, who has many relatives in Talladega County, is currently in physical therapy and has surgery every two to three days. Those interested in keeping up with his progress or sending him a message can visit the website www.prayersforjoshwetzel.com or search for Josh Wetzel on Facebook. Wetzel’s grandmother, Carolyn Spurgeon, says that Josh reads the page each morning and that many of the prayers and comments come from people in Talladega County.
