PELL CITY — The new Goody’s store is currently hiring and is scheduled to open within a month.

“Our grand opening is set for Oct. 17,” said Lacy Haney, manager for the new store, which is located in the old Food World store building at 613 Martin St. N., Suite 2.

Bob Slone, contractor with Maverick Construction LLC in South Carolina, which is renovating the store, said renovations began Aug. 22.

“Everything is on schedule,” he said. “Construction is complete except for punch list items like doorknobs and touch-up paint. The final inspection with the fire marshal and building inspector is set for Monday, and I anticipate everything to go well.”

Haney said the store is now getting all its supplies and fixtures in.

“We are currently hiring, and will accept applications through Friday, Sept. 28,” she said. “We accept applications from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.”

Haney said she would initially hire approximately 25 employees for the store setup and grand opening.

“Some of those are temporary jobs,” she said. “We will have a staff of about 10 total employees.”

Haney said she has hired about eight people so far.

“The employees will do training and store setup starting about one-and-a-half weeks before the grand opening,” she said.

Haney said Goody’s carries a variety of clothing, including Misses, Women’s, Petites, Men’s, Young Men’s, Children’s, Intimates, Dresses, shoes, accessories and fragrances.

“The majority of it is family clothing,” she said.

Haney said the store is spot-on or slightly ahead of schedule. The store is about 12,500 square feet and store hours will be 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sundays.

“We are very happy with the progress and very excited to get set up and open,” she said. “The community has been welcoming, and people seem excited to have us locating in Pell City.”
