It’s time to get out the party dresses, find the dancing shoes and head out to the Antique Talladega Mardi Gras Gala and Art Auction Saturday night at the Speedvision Dome at Talladega Superspeedway.

It’s a great party, with something for everyone.

Looking for good music? The Atlanta All Stars will be playing nonstop on Saturday, filling the dome with tunes that range from Motown to beach music to the music of today. No matter what your age, no matter what your taste in music, this band promises to cover it all.

“And when we call it nonstop, we mean nonstop,” says Boyd McGhee, chairman of the 2013 gala. “They don’t take breaks.”

Motown and beach music and oldies will lead off the playlist, and then the band will segue into today’s hot tunes for the younger set.

Want something good to eat? Classic on Noble from Anniston will be providing the food this year. Their well-earned reputation ensures that good food and plenty of it will be on hand.

A new food feature this year will be an oyster shucking bar, with freshly shucked Apalachicola oysters available for those who enjoy the treat. In addition to that, there will be veggie options and other foods and beverages available.

A photographer will be on hand to record for posterity those couples who want a keepsake of the night out. And there will be no waiting for the pictures. The photographer, Wallace Bromberg, will be able to not only take your picture, but to print the photos on site.

Still not convinced?

Then how about getting a raffle ticket for an adorable chocolate Lab puppy, or a Remington rifle or a Green Egg charcoal cooker? Great prizes and the money goes for a great cause.

Lots of art, from valuable collectibles to more affordable pieces will be on display, and part of a silent auction that promises drama and intrigue as bidders try to disguise their intentions until the last moment.

All that is available for only $90 per person. The money raised from the Gala goes to the operations of the Ritz Theater, one of Talladega’s gems.

The music, drama, dance and other theatrical performance that are available in Talladega because the Ritz is here and is a viable venue are simply outstanding. Through the years local citizens—and more than a few from out of town – have enjoyed first-class entertainment in our town visiting the Ritz.

And that is what this party is really all about. It’s about a good time for local folks who want to support a good cause. It’s fun, and it is worthwhile. Hard to beat.

Hope to see you there.
