Alabama State Troopers reported that Crystal Nichole Sims, 30, of Sylacauga and William Glenn Hammons, 54, of Talladega were killed in a wreck 2.1 miles west of Sylacauga on the Sylacauga-Fayetteville Highway. The accident took place 50-75 feet east of the Omya plant entrance and in front of the residence at 2064 Sylacauga-Fayetteville Highway. The accident report states the accident took place at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Sims, driver of a 1999 Honda Accord, was transported to University Hospital in Birmingham. Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy received a call at approximately 12:30 a.m. Thursday from the hospital reporting Sims died from her injuries.
Hammons, a passenger in the Accord, was transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, where he was pronounced dead at 9:53 p.m.
Leslie Hay Hughes, 38, of Sylacauga, driving a 2000 Ford F150, was injured in the accident. She was transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center and was later transferred to University Hospital.
The accident remains under investigation.
Sims is survived by her mother, Myra DeLoach of Fayetteville; her father, Michael Sims of Sylacauga; and a daughter, Marlana Smitherman of Fayetteville.
Visitation for Sims is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today and funerals service will be conducted at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Talladega Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Green officiating.
Hammons is survived by two daughters, Nicole Hammons of Sylacauga and Leslie Drinnon of Morristown, Tenn.; and a sister, Judy Thomason of Cullman.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30-2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Forbus officiating.
