TALLADEGA COUNTY — A Childersburg woman was killed following a two-vehicle accident on Grist Mill Road and Alabama 21 Monday afternoon.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Ronniekea Garrett, 21, appears to have been driving a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro at a high rate of speed down Grist Mill Road about 4 miles north of Winterboro at about 5:19 p.m. Monday.

A state trooper on routine patrol spotted Garrett driving over the speed limit and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. According to the trooper’s report, Garrett’s vehicle accelerated, ran a stop sign and collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Christopher Cook, 43, of Sylacauga.

Garrett was ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cook suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to University Hospital in Birmingham via Lifesaver helicopter.

According to the report, a third vehicle sustained minor damage from debris, but the driver was not injured.

No information on Cook’s condition was available Tuesday afternoon.

No further information on the accident was available Tuesday as the troopers continue to investigate, the report said.
