A Sylacauga woman died in a wreck on U.S. 280 Friday. Kay Wood, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene by Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy at 12:47 p.m. Friday after she apparently pulled out in front of a westbound 18-wheeler as she left the parking lot of Mama Ree’s Restaurant. The rear-end impact pushed the Dodge Intrepid into a turn lane on the opposite side of the highway and in front of a convenience store. Both Childersburg and Oak Grove fire and rescue departments responded to the call and assisted in the extraction of the victim. The driver of the 18-wheeler was reported to be badly shaken, but otherwise all right. Traffic was impeded in both lanes for over an hour and a half as State Troopers investigated the accident and the wrecked vehicle and debris was removed from the scene.
