According to Library Director Vickie Harkins, the board approved the new hours Tuesday evening during their regular monthly meeting. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. They will still be closed on Sundays.
The board has tweaked the library’s hours on other occasions recently based on foot traffic and patron surveys. Harkins said additional surveys would be used in the future, both for those visiting in person and for those exploring the library’s website. Separate surveys will be offered for young adults and adults.
“The board discussed using the surveys to help improve our library,” she said.
Also Tuesday, the board:
• Discussed implementing a young adult summer reading program like the one in Pell City. No action was taken.
• Discussed their budget for the coming year, although they have not voted on a final draft. Once the draft is approved, it will be submitted to the Talladega City Council for final approval.
• Tabled discussion of long-term goals and revised bylaws.
• Discussed, but took no action on, a long-term maintenance contract for the computers accessible to the public.
