According to Interim Chief Jason Busby, the accident happened about 1 p.m. Wednesday when an 18-wheeler pulled out in front of a dump truck owned by the Talladega County Road Department.
Busby said the dump truck driver applied his brakes and attempted to take evasive action, but ran off the road and down an embankment. The driver was listed as Tonora Swain, 35.
Busby said the county vehicle sustained heavy damage, but was probably not totaled. Swain was transported to the emergency room of Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega by ambulance. No information on his condition was available Thursday.
The 18-wheeler fled the scene and no further description was available Thursday, Busby said.
Leaving the scene of an accident with injury is a felony.
