According to Interim Police Chief Jason Busby, officers initially responded to a residence in Bemiston where a male subject was threatening to kill his mother and his sister, then himself. He also threatened the officers after they arrived.
Busby said the first officers had reason to believe the man was armed, and sent for a SWAT team. At this point, the sister had gotten outside the house, but the mother was still inside.
Busby said the negotiations lasted more than an hour and a half before the standoff ended peacefully, with no one injured. The man had been armed with a large butcher knife, and was arrested on a charge of domestic violence menacing.
