School officials say the bats were located in the high school gymnasium, weight room and the band hall.
Principal Roger Wilkinson said bats have historically been a problem at the school for a number of years.
“Through the years, there have been a few bats here and there at the school,” Wilkinson said. “Just last Thursday, I removed three from the weight room.”
Wilkinson said St. Clair Schools Superintendent Jenny Seals and the board of education are aware of the situation and are getting a company to come in hopefully Friday to remove all the bats.
“This has affected our P.E. classes some, and our band students,” Wilkinson said. “Other than that, school is going on as normal.”
Seals said they are working to remove the bats.
“We are keeping students out of the area where the bats are,” Seals said. “We are working diligently to remove all the bats out of the building. I don’t want any bats in any of the buildings.”
Seals said Critter Control out of Birmingham will be at the school Thursday and they are bringing a team to remove the bats.
