Dispatchers received the initial call at 1:01 p.m. and officers from the Talladega Police Department arrived at the scene at approximately 1:03 p.m.
“Witnesses on the scene reported the dump truck attempted to beat the train,” Police Lt. Alan Kelly said.
The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and emergency medical services transported him to an undisclosed hospital.
“The driver of the dump truck had to be removed from the vehicle and he was treated by EMS on the scene,” Kelly said.
According to Kelly, the dump track belonged to an independent contractor not affiliated with the city or county. The driver was hauling a load of sand en route to Waites Construction, but truck was not contracted to the company.
The incident is currently under investigation and the name of the driver is being withheld until the investigation reaches a conclusion.
