“The City Council authorizes the Fire Fees be increased to $9 per month, commencing on October 1, 2013, and an annual increase of $1 commencing on October 1, 2014,” the ordinance states.
Officials said the Riverside fire dues were last increased in 1999, when they went from $3 to $5 per month per household.
Several city councilmen said the feedback from people they spoke to in their respective districts was positive.
“They said do what you have to do to keep the service,” Councilman Kenny Womack said.
Councilman Johnny Osborn asked about varying fees for businesses, which currently pay the same fee as residences for fire protection.
The council agreed to discuss different fire dues for businesses at a later date.
In other matters Tuesday, the council:
• Announced the gasoline pump on land at Riverside Landing is operational.
• Announced the work session for Sept. 10 has been canceled.
