Agricultural science teacher Richard Allen Bice, 41, of Ragland, is on the docket to be tried for being a school employee having contact with a student under the age of 19 before Talladega County District Court Judge Jeb Fannin. If convicted, he faces up to 12 months in the Talladega County Jail.
Although Talladega city school officials could not officially identify him, the board voted 5-0 to terminate a male teacher at the career tech center who lived in Ragland during a called meeting Tuesday afternoon. Up to that point, Bice had remained on the system payroll and was even listed on class schedules, although he has not been in a classroom since being arrested by Talladega police last year.
The case against him was worked by the Talladega Police Department. Bice was arrested on school property in May.
The Daily Home does not generally reveal the names of those charged with misdemeanors only or sex offenders who have not been indicted, but because of Bice’s position of public trust and the nature of the charges against him, it was decided to publish his name at this time.
