According to interim Talladega Police Chief Jason Busby, Hannah Canada, 24, was arrested by detectives Tuesday morning on a warrant charging theft of property in the first degree. Canada allegedly had the keys and paperwork to the truck with her at the time of her arrest, but said the vehicle had been impounded in Jones, Ala.
Busby said Canada had initially borrowed the pickup truck on Aug. 3, but then refused to return it. The initial report was for unauthorized use of the vehicle.
Theft of property in the first degree is a Class B felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by two to 20 years in prison.
