Antoine Stockdale, 32, was accused of abusing a 12-year-old girl. According to Assistant District Attorney Jake Argo, the jury of seven men and five women deliberated for about 15 minutes before coming back with a guilty verdict. Stockdale will be sentenced by Circuit Judge Bo Hollingsworth Oct. 30.
In addition to the victim’s testimony, Argo said the jury also heard that the victim’s DNA had been recovered from a swab of his left hand. During his own testimony, Stockdale said he had been trying to teach the victim to play the baritone, and that her DNA must have gotten on his hand when he was emptying the spit valve.
“The victim really did a wonderful job,” Argo said.
Sexual abuse in the first degree is a Class C felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.
