According to Police Capt. Leon Thomas, Edward Charles Lewis, 38, of the Knoxville Homes area in Talladega, was arrested Friday. As of Monday afternoon, he had not had an initial court appearance and bond had not been set.
Lewis allegedly broke into the house while someone was at home, Thomas said. The reporting party heard a noise and saw what she described as a black male standing next to her television set, which was on the floor.
The man fled. The woman at the house said she recognized the man, but initially did not know his name. The home owner knew who he was, however, Thomas said.
Lewis was contacted by investigators Friday and was arrested at City Hall.
Burglary in the second degree is a Class B felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by two to 20 years in prison.
