St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Under Sheriff Billy Murray identified the driver as Henry Jordan Love.
Love apparently lost control of the tractor-trailer, which was loaded with rocks.
The vehicle rolled over, trapping the driver inside the truck.
Pell City Firefighters used the jaws-of-life to cut the victim out of the truck cab.
Emergency workers said the Love was conscious throughout the extrication process.
Love was put onboard a Lifesaver helicopter that landed on U.S. 231, near the crash site, after authorities blocked traffic in both directions of the highway.
The accident happened at about 8 a.m., about a one-half mile south of Rabbit Branch Road.
The victim was flow to University Hospital in Birmingham.
Meghan Davis, a spokeswoman for UAB Hospital, said Monday afternoon that Love remains in critical condition.
