ASD was able to quickly gain an early 14-0 lead. The Silent Warriors got on the scoreboard on a 4-yard Eddie Thomas run toward the MSD sideline. Josh Edwards successfully ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0. The Silent Warriors scored again on their next offensive drive when Edwards ran the ball up the middle from the 4-yard line and into the end zone. His attempt at the ensuing 2-point conversion failed, making it 14-0.
MSD got on the scoreboard with a fake handoff to Terry Fleming with the ball ending up in the hands of Darius Trice, who ran 66 yards down the MSD sideline for a touchdown to cut the lead to 14-6. The 2-point conversion failed.
ASD wasted no time in building their lead on their first drive of the second half. Anthony Scott ran the ball up the middle, breaking two tackles, before lowering his shoulders and plowing right into an MSD defender, sending the defender backward and opening up the rest of the field to allow Scott to run the remaining distance of the field for a 54-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed, but ASD, with a firm 20-6 lead, gained the momentum.
Cody Maddox came up with an interception on the ensuing MSD drive, which resulted in Scott punching the ball in on a 1-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown. Scott connected with Maddox for the 2-point conversion to make it 28-6.
MSD answered with a 74-yard run up the middle by Marques Vickers for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed to make it 28-12. The Bulldogs also scored on their next offensive possession. Again, Vickers raced to the end zone, this time from 57 yards away. He ran the ball up the middle for a successful 2-point conversion to put the score at 28-20.
Scott finished off the following ASD drive with another 1-yard quarterback keeper and once again, he completed a pass for a successful 2-point conversion, making it 36-20.
Thomas fumbled an option pitch on the Silent Warriors following drive, which eventually resulted in an MSD touchdown run by Keith Brignac from 42 yards away. Brignac also ran in the 2-point conversion to close the gap to 36-28.
Thomas redeemed himself by scoring a 35-yard touchdown run. Scott again connected with Maddox for a successful 2-point conversion, making it 44-28.
Anthony Scott led the Silent Warriors with 148 yards rushing, including three rushing touchdowns and three successful passing 2-point conversions.
The win moved ASD to a 2-3 overall record. The team plays the last Southeastern deaf school on the schedule, Florida School for the Deaf, at Kiwanis Field Saturday at 7 p.m.
