Jerome Lee, 57, will now be sent to the Taylor-Hardin Secure Psychiatric Facility, where he will remain in the custody of the state Department of Mental Health. According to Talladega County District Attorney Steve Giddens, any change in Lee’s course of treatment, including his release, would have to be presented to Circuit Judge Bo Hollingsworth, who tried the burglary case. Changes would include lesser degrees of security, change in treatment regimen, outside employment and release.
Lee was arrested in June 2011 and charged with breaking into the building next to the Ritz, which is used for storage. Lee dumped out a garbage bag that he found at the scene and filled it back up with a dozen coffee mugs commemorating the 175th anniversary of the city of Talladega’s incorporation and, possibly, three pairs of women’s shoes.
Also in court this week, Hollingsworth:
O Accepted a guilty plea from Rodney Lynn Johnson, 26, to possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in the second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. Johnson was sentenced to 36 months on the first count and 12 months each on the second and third counts.
O Accepted a guilty plea from Daniel Brent Baker, 30, to three counts of manufacture of a controlled substance in the second degree and one count of drug paraphernalia. Baker was sentenced to 50 months on the first three charges and 12 months on the second, concurrent, suspended, with three years probation.
