According to Capt. Leon Thomas, officers were alerted to a burglary in progress on Walnut Street at about 10:39 p.m. Monday night. The suspect was gone when the officers arrived, however.
The woman who lives in the house is legally blind, Thomas said. She heard a commotion near her door, and when she went to check, she was knocked down and sustained minor injuries.
The burglar took her cell phone, which was recovered outside the residence. Nothing else was stolen.
The victim initially refused transport to the hospital, Thomas said.
The suspect was described as a young black male with a skinny build. He seems to have fled the house on foot, and does not appear to have been armed.
