According to Capt. Leon Thomas, Patrick Lawrence Collins, 41, of Shaw Ave. was arrested Monday and was being held on a $5,000 bond, set by District Court Judge Jeb Fannin.
Collins is accused of stealing 576 pounds of copper shavings, valued at about $1,500, from his former employer, Talladega Foundry, between July and September. About 100 pounds of stolen copper had been recovered by police as of Tuesday afternoon, Thomas said.
Detective Jimmy Thompson lead the investigation.
Theft of property in the second degree is a Class C felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.
