The victim, identified as Jeremy Baker, 28, of Pell City, was found hung in the St. Clair County Jail in Pell City.
St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell said late Wednesday that the Alabama Department of Forensic Science has ruled that Baker died as a result from hanging, and there is no evidence of any foul play.
Russell said the Pell City man was found hung inside a shower stall.
He said Baker was found late Friday by other inmates.
Russell said Baker was transported to the St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
St. Clair County Sheriff Department Deputy Lt. Freddie Turrentine said Baker was arrested by an officer with the Pell City Police Department about one week before the inmate’s death.
He said Baker was taken into custody for the failure to appear in court on a theft of property third-degree charge.
Turrentine said the inmate was being held in the St. Clair County Jail without bond, pending his court hearing.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation continues it investigation into Baker’s death. ABI’s findings will be turned over to the St. Clair County District Attorney’s Office.
