The Daily Home is seeking the names of the top candidates expected to interview for the position of Riverside city clerk.

“I am confident we will release the names of the top five or six candidates Monday,” Mayor Rusty Jessup said. “I will ask the candidates to release their names around the first of December, along with the schedule of interviews.”

The Daily Home officially requested the names and resumes of the top candidates.

Jessup said Wednesday he has not contacted the final candidates and did not want to release their name to the newspaper before he spoke to them or before he notified the other city clerk candidates who will not be interviewed by the City Council.

The first interview for the position of city clerk is scheduled for next week.

“If a candidate asks their name not be released prior to the actual interview, I will honor their request,” Jessup said.

He said the selection committee recommended six candidates, however, it is possible that only five will choose to interview.

“The scheduled times are tentative pending notification of the interviewee,” he said.

Tentative interview dates are set for:

• Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.

• Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m.

• Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m.

• Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m.

• Wednesday, Dec. 11. at 7 p.m.

• Monday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m.

Jessup said of the possible six top candidates, four are from St. Clair County and two are from Talladega County.

“The interviews will be held in a public forum, but the public will not be allowed to participate,” he said. “Only the mayor and council may question the candidates.”

Jessup said each interview is expected to last from 20-45 minutes, but no longer than one hour.
