A single-vehicle accident on Dec. 2 claimed the life of a Sylacauga man.

According to Alabama State Trooper Sgt. Steve Jarrett, 56-year-old George Griffith was killed when the vehicle he was driving left the wet roadway, overturned and struck a tree. The crash occurred at 2:25 p.m. on Oldfield Road, one-tenth of a mile east of the Sylacauga city limit.

Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy said Griffith was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:12 p.m. The cause of death was blunt force trauma. Griffith was driving a white Honda Accord. Speed may have been a factor in the incident, Murphy said.

No further information is available as State Troopers continue to investigate.

It was only one month ago that another Sylacauga man, 19-year-old Ray Kelow, was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Pine Grove Road in which his Chevy Impala left the road and hit a tree.
