Members of the Oak Grove Town Council agreed Tuesday to apply for an Assistance to Firefighters federal grant to buy a new fire engine.

Town clerk Wendy Kelly said the town wants to replace a pumper that was built in 1975. The town would put up a match of $15,500 for the grant.

The called meeting was held to meet a Friday deadline to apply. The council’s next regular meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m.

Also during the called meeting, the council authorized Mayor Tony White to find and negotiate to buy a used tractor for the Street Department, spending up to $13,000.

Kelly said the town’s two tractors are old and have mechanical problems.
