Mari Culver, Hispanic coordinator at the church, said it’s the second time Our Lady of the Lake has hosted the Matachina dance group. Its members wear colorful costumes with beads that clack when they perform the traditional dance.
The event honors the official Catholic account of the Virgin Mary appearing to a peasant, Juan Diego, in Mexico on Dec. 9, 1531.
The dance performance will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the Mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe at p.m.
Following the Mass, a fiesta will feature Mexican food and other dishes.
Culver said the public is invited, and covered dishes are encouraged.
“It’s a very beautiful dance and a very beautiful Mass,” she said.
The church is at 4609 Martin Street S. in Pell City.
