A representative from Talladega College stopped by the Talladega County Board of Education meeting Tuesday to honor an administrator for outstanding service to the institution.

Dionne Edison, interim chair of the college’s Department of Education, presented Superintendent Suzanne Lacey a recognition plaque for her partnership with the college that allows students to gain field experience and complete their internships at Talladega County schools.

“The Talladega County School System has been very warm and welcoming to us by allowing our students to come out,” Edison said. “We have been really impressed with what we’ve seen as an institution, and I’m pleased (the system) has excellent teachers to work with our students.”

Lacey stated she was shocked to receive the honor and commended the college for its growing education program.

“We couldn’t do it without you because we hire a lot of your graduates,” Lacey said. “It’s always nice to know you’re just a phone call away because this summer, I was talking to (Jacqueline) Paddio and I said, ‘We need a math teacher, and we need an English teacher.’ Within 15 minutes, she called back (with) several possibilities.

“It’s so nice to have you in our community,” Lacey said. “We read a lot about Talladega College in the paper, and I’ve said before that you all make a strong presence in our community. We appreciate the value of that because the work you do certainly supports the work we’re doing here. Thanks for being just (a short) distance away. This is an unexpected honor, and I will treasure it.”
