The Daily Home’s 2013 Shoes for Christmas effort has reached $6,555, enough donations to buy 262 pairs of shoes for local children who need them.

The Shoes for Christmas tradition is a long standing one with The Daily Home and its readers, dating as far back as present day employees can recall.

“Countless pairs of shoes have been bought with the money donated by the people of Talladega and St. Clair counties,” said Ed Fowler, editor and publisher for The Daily Home. “It’s a remarkable success story every year. Last year, while our communities were still recovering from the recession, more than $8,000 was raised.”

Children who are identified as in need of new shoes by the Daily Home’s coordinating entities, SAFE (the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement) in south Talladega County, FIRST Family Services in north Talladega County and Refuge Ministries in St. Clair County, will receive a $25 certificate for new shoes.

The number of pairs of shoes provided each year depends on the total gifts received for each area.

For the final week, donations made from Childersburg include $25, anonymous; and $50 from Daily Home employees.
