A man who was injured in a single-car accident on Stemley Bridge Road Friday remains in critical condition at University Hospital in Birmingham.

A hospital spokesperson said Monday that Edward Knight, 47, of Odenville remains at the hospital in critical condition.

Knight was airlifted to the Birmingham hospital after he lost control of his Toyota Camry, which left the roadway Friday afternoon at about 2:38 p.m., hitting trees and plummeting into a deep ditch beside the road.

Emergency workers extracted Knight from his vehicle with the Jaws of Life.

Knight was driving east toward Talladega County when he lost control of his vehicle at the 4900 block of Stemley Bridge Road, near Lakewood Presbyterian Church.

Pell City Police Department Lt. Josh Herren said Monday that the accident was still under investigation.
