LINCOLN - The Police Department continues to search for an unnamed suspect in connection with the murder of a Talladega man.

“We are still seeking a suspect believed to be female,” Police Investigator Amanda Crow said. “We are not releasing any names at this time and are still conducting interviews.”

Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy identified the victim as John Caldwell, 63, who was found by family members at his residence on Roberson Road Monday. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Murphy said Caldwell had one stab wound to the neck but no other wounds.

“John, who went by Eddie, was my best friend all my life,” said Millie Glover, who lives two houses down from Caldwell’s residence. “I moved away then moved back, but we still remained good friends.”

Glover said a woman Caldwell was dating “had been telling Eddie that she was going to kill him for a while.”

“They fought and he called the police, but would let her come back,” she said. “I was sitting at my house and saw her go up the road Sunday and said to myself, ‘Oh, no, the problem’s back.’”

Glover said she thinks Caldwell didn’t believe the woman would really kill him.

“She has split personalities or something,” Glover said. “All his brothers tried to tell him, and his friends warned him. He would tell me she was crazy. The Sunday before last, which was the last conversation I had with him, I told him I knew she was crazy and to leave her alone. I told him, ‘Don’t open your door and let her in.’ I can’t believe he is dead — I just don’t understand it.”

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to call Crow at 205-763-4070.
