Capt. Kelly Johnson of the Sylacauga Police Department and two of his young friends wait to check out with a basket full of toys and goodies Thursday night at Wal-Mart in Sylacauga. Seventy-seven youngsters from throughout South Talladega County had the opportunity to pick their own Christmas presents this week, during the Coosa Valley Fraternal Order of Police's annual Shop with a Cop program. In the last couple of months, members of the organization held a motorcycle ride and a party to raise funds, and provided $75 to each child to buy whatever they wanted, with no parental input. Wendy's provided dinner for a group on Tuesday and Jack's on Thursday. They rode to Wal-Mart in police cars with lights flashing and sirens blaring, The FOP's aim is to show the children that police are friends, not foes.
