Munford wins consolation game vs. Winterboro, 39-31

Munford defeated Winterboro 39-31 in the consolation game of the Round Robin finale.

Munford used an 11-1 run in the second quarter to gain an advantage that held for the remainder of the game. Logan Cooper knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to push Munford from a 9-9 tie to having a 15-9 advantage. Cooper scored his third consecutive basket while driving inside to give the Lions a 17-9 lead. Jay Scales got an open look in the post with an assist from Brett Haynie. By the end of the run, Munford held a 20-10 lead.

Winterboro closed out the half with a 6-0 run. Jutorrius Cook made a basket inside the post and hit two free throws, while Phillip Cook also hit two free throws to make it 20-16.

The third quarter was a draw, with the score 30-26 by the end of it.

Haynie opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer on an assist by Cameron Turner. Tavon Lawson had a critical putback with less than two minutes remaining to give Munford a 37-30 lead.

After Jutorrius Cook made one of two free throws, Monteo Garrett hit a basket near the baseline while driving into the post. Scales came up with a steal to seal the game.

Cooper led the Lions in scoring with 10 points, while Monteo Garrett finished the game with nine points. Tavon Lawson contributed eight points.

For Winterboro, Jutorrius Cook was once again the team’s leading scorer with 16 points. Phillip Cook finished the game with nine points.
