Munford defeats Cleburne Co., 57-50

CJ Chapman scored 19 points off the bench to lead Munford past area foe Cleburne County, 57-50 on Friday night.

The Lions (4-6,1-1) trailed by eight points late in the third quarter, but used a 10-0 run to tie the game going to the fourth quarter.

Tavon Lawson scored 10 points, while Brett Haynie chipped in with nine points.

Munford host Clay Central on Monday at 1 p.m.

B.B. COMER 35, CENTRAL COOSA 31

Comer managed to earn a strong win against area opponent Central Coosa Friday night with their defense. With the team leading 31-30, Dee Embery came up with a huge steal that helped the team gain a 33-30 lead. The team had another steal to seal the game.

Houston Ford led the Tigers in scoring with eight points, while Embery finished the game with seven points. Senior Tyler Holmes contributed six points. Darius Hale chipped in five points. Tyre McKinney led the team in rebounding.

“It was one of the better defensive efforts since I’ve been coaching,” Comer head coach Carson Grier said. “It was a good team effort.”

The win moves the team to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in area play.

Comer hosts Winterboro tomorrow night with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.

SYLACAUGA 43, OAK MOUNTAIN 41

Rodney Gilbert had a big fourth quarter to fuel Sylacauga to a road win at Oak Mountain.

Down 41-40, Gilbert hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left for the game winner. Gilbert had 10 points in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with 15 points total.

Kadeem Jackson had 10 points, all in the first half. Hayden Ellis chipped in eight points.

The Aggies travel to Talladega Friday with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS

MUNFORD 38, CLEBURNE CO. 26

The Munford Lady Lions scored a big area win Friday night against Cleburne Co., 38-26.

Kierra Groce led the team in scoring with 13 points, while Esherika Hawkins was also in double digits with 10 points.

The win moves the team’s overall record to 7-2 and 1-1 in area play.

They will host Clay-Central on Monday with tipoff slated for 2:30 p.m.

SYLACAUGA 48, OAK MOUNTAIN 47

Sylacauga got a big road win at Oak Mountain, knocking down several key free throws at critical times in the fourth quarter.

Shakayla Thomas once again earned a double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Kayla Dark contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while Taniya Garrett finished the game with five points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Aggies will play at Talladega Friday with tipoff slated for 6 p.m.

TRACK AND FIELD

The Lincoln Golden Bears track team participated in the Ice Break Invitational on Friday at the CrossPlex in Birmingham.

Shelbi White won the 60 meter dash and she had a fast start in the 400 meter.

JaMychol Baker won the 400 meter dash and finished fourth in the 60 meter dash.

Austin Swain finished third in the 60 meter hurdles.
